For those who haven't heard about it yet, Iowa's Annual Sales Tax Holiday is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 6-7 this year.
Businesses that are open on these days are required to participate.
During this event, no sales tax, including Local Option Sales Tax, will be collected on sales of clothing or footwear having a selling price of less than $100.
The exemption does not apply to items selling for $100 or more.
According to the Iowa Department of Revenue Web site, "Clothing" does not include the following: watches, watchbands, jewelry, umbrellas, handkerchiefs, sporting equipment and any special clothing or footwear designed primarily for athletic activity or protective use and not usually considered appropriate for every day wear."
Obviously this two-day sales tax holiday is a good day to save when buying school clothes or just supplementing your own wardrobe.
So get out there and shop. With the imminent ringing of school bells in about a month, next weekend will be a great time for Mom and Dad to pile into the family vehicle with the entire brood to do some serious school shopping.
