Obama's Latest Betrayal: Don't Ask Don't Tell

The most exclusive club in the world, or so it's sometimes called, currently has a membership of four: two Bushies, one Clinton, one Carter. Apparently, Mr. Obama is so eager to join the Ex-Presidents Club that he's determined to keep on alienating his supporters and well-wishers while caving in to those who will hate and oppose him, no matter what he does. Most recent example: his manipulative cowardice on the militarily necessary, morally appropriate and long-overdue repeal of the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" (DADT) policy on gays.

(Disclosure time. I'm happily hetero, a former Marine, and a citizen who believes that sexual orientation is irrelevant to the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.)

It's ugly enough that Mr. Obama announced his opposition to gay marriage because of his religious beliefs. God is not a citizen. Nobody's God. And Mr. Obama's job is not to justify discrimination against his fellow citizens on such non-constitutional grounds, nor to give aid and comfort to those who would do so. But now, in typical Beltway style, he has made sure that nothing will be done about DADT on his watch.
